Ok, i've been thinking. I'll Probably be buying a 2.0GhZ MBP 15.4" Refurbished with 1GB of RAM. I would like to go 17" but i would not something that big when traveling. I am also planning on buying a second flatscreen monitor, probably a 20" from dell.com. The question i have is that this will be the first time i will experience the use of two displays. i know that many people use two displays every day, however does anyone have any complaints to this? was it hard to get used to or anything? i'm getting an extra monitor because i could really use the space. well tell me if this is a good plan or if i should go w/ somthing else.

I used dual displays for a few years on my PC. In actuality it was a waste.

Sure it's a lot of space but you really have to be a hard-core graphics professional (for example) to maximize and use that space. I'll certainly never do it again.

So unless you're working on multiple Photoshop projects, FCP, or some other pro application more than 8 hours a day, I'd say save your $$$ for something better.

well i was thinking i'd either use it as a second display or a primary one w/ the Macbook Pro closed next to it or something like that.

no offense, but i would TOTALLY have to disagree. I am running a 12" PB with a 26" Samsung next to it. On the 12" screen I keep my business email and Adium up the whole time so i can catch anything that could possibly be hiding behind another window. On the Samsung i run Firefox, iTunes, and Entourage (for my personal email) as well as PS and FCE.

I agree.... with the disagreeing... er... :)

I used to run dual screen about a year or so ago- either my laptop or my desktop (both pc, i know, i know, i'm sorry!.... I was confused back then!) hooked up with a 19" cdt that used to be my main monitor. I loved it! I would have iTunes and AIM on the 19" and I would be running AutoCad or SketchUp or whatever on the computer's screen- and truely was fantastic. I am extremely looking forward to doing this again when I get the MacBook. I have a 17" widescreen LCD that I mounted on my wall, just above where the laptop screen would be, so I will be rocking dual screens directly on top of one another. :)

I would say it's just a matter of being able to utilize the second display. If you had a 12" PB, it would definitely be more useful, but even with the higher resolution of the MBP, a second display can come in handy.

But if you're just planning on using Safari, iChat/Adium, Mail, and iTunes all day long, there's truly no use in having a second display. Ideally, you would put your iTunes and Buddy List on one monitor, but it's not necessary at the resolution of a 15" MBP.

However, if you watch a lot of videos/movies on your computer, use Photoshop, etc. as others have mentioned, it can be a godsend.

Having a second display gives you a lot of potential, but you need to be able to make proper use of the extra real estate.

Why would I be offended at your having a different opinion?
