i'm guessing that it can't but is there a way to create a smart playlist that contains all the artists that only have one song present in my library?

i like to listen to full albums so these single-files often get overlooked, but if they were automatically collected in one place i'd find it very useful.

    Here you go

This Applescript says it does just what you're looking for and dumps them all into a playlist for you.

actually (and you'll have to forgive me here, i'm new to scripting!) is there a way that i could modify that script so that single tracks that were listed as being part of a compilation would be excluded?

i like to listen to my 60s compilations in their entirety and would rather that the one-track-wonders from these did not make it to the playlist.

    cheers

I have no clue on script modifying so can't help you there.

I can suggest a workaround though. You could create a smart playlist which has the following

Playlist is (whatever you called your one hit wonders)
    +
    Album is not (Sixties Compilation)

If your music has proper dates associated with the tracks, you could just use the year of the music to alter the playlist (but depends on whether there are other 60s songs you want to hear).

You might be safer just dragging your compilation albums (if you have lots) into a normal playlist, and excluding that from the Smart Playlist.
