Mine was quite for a few days, just got it. Now, there is a throttling buzzing sound coming from the back side.

Any thoughts, are there already hardware issues with these units?

i sat in front of one yesterday. and yes there is noise. imho it was even a bit louder than a powermac... but it´s owner thinks it´s one of the fans which doesn´t work properly

    thinking that too

Yeah, I am thiking that too. The HD I believe is close to the top, where the vent is. And this sound sounds like a fan whizzing.

Why would this be something that just came on after a couple days of use?

    It never stops...

Like every other computer the imac isight make noise, over time it will make more and more noise. Cant belive this still surprises everyone.
The fans collects dust, get worn down...
On the imac the fans are right infront of you, in most other computers they are in a case under your table, it all matters...

What do you guys expect? Just because apple relases a new imac it is supposed to be ultra quite?

And, try searching the archives before posting, this subject have been up dozens of times...

Its a computer - it make noise!

I did iMovie encoding on my friend's iMac G5 20" w/iSight. It was still quiet at the Highest setting.

    ja wohl

I guess the only point to make is, that with something brand new, and then in three days for something to creep up, one wonders? Is there something involved in this - sometime that might break further down the line? Sooner?

I chatted with apple support, they said reset PRAM, NVRAM and the SMU. Tried that, but nothing. I guess I was hoping for too much.

I may chat with the apple store guys and see, I don't really think that it should be this loud this soon, and certainly not just in the three days of life it has run.

I know this is considered the rev C for the iMac G5 line, however it does sport a new case design which is slightly thinner and a new mobo. Should this not be considered as a rev 2A.
