i have a powerbook g4 titanium basically brand new got it in august... i updated my OS to 10.2.8 then i converted all my mp3's to AAC to conserve space cause i have like 7 gigs of them so 5 looks a lot nicer...make a long story short...i converted them and now they're skipping and my friend who also updated to 10.2.8 is having problems too...why is my music skipping and does it have anything to do with 10.2.8?

ps when i ran itunes it was the only program open so im not overloading the processor or anything

    please help!

I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you, but if you didn't delete your MP3s I would recommend replacing your AAC files. Converting one lossy compression scheme to another only further lowers the quality. If space is that much of an issue you are better off buying a new drive or deleting some files. The saved space is at a high cost to quality.

I've been running OS X 10.2.8 for a couple of days and I've been doing a lot of ripping and converting with iTunes. No problems here, everything sounds perfect.

I've ripped 1 CD since instaling 10.2.8 and it went fine. I plugged in my iPod last night for the first time since 10.2.8 and it makes iTunes act funny--also doesn't mount. Don't know if it's coincidence.

    Skipping

My songs have been skipping since the update also. I hope this will be fixed when they rerelease the update.

I had this trouble last night - my iPod would mount on the desktop but not in iTunes, so there was no way to update songs or change preferneces etc... Wiping my iPod and reinstalling software and tunes seems to have done the trick...

Don't know if this was anything to do with 10.2.8, but as it happened the day after I installed it, it's not unlikely, although I've had no other problems...

    iTunes Visualizer

I have been running OS X.2.8 for a few days now and iTunes is the only application that appears affected by it. The playback of my MP3 files is almost perfect but the full-screen Visualizer mode seems to have dropped from 100 to 85 frames per second. Perhaps the iApps will need minor updates to work well with 1.2.8.

All this makes me look forward to clean-installing OS X.3 when it comes out.

My audio cut out completely twice since the .2.8 update, but it seems fine now. As for the converting AAC to mp3- the update might not be the source of your problems.

I was just about to say the same thing... It's umbelievable (for me at least) to complain of a drop from 100 to 85 fps when all I get is a lowly 12-20 (ish) on my 600 g3... ;(

I had the same iTunes problems on my PB G4. To solve it turn all effects and presets off in iTunes. Then go to the system prefs and make sure all the sound options are correct (like balance), when you have corrected them, go back to iTunes and it should work properly.

Console commands toggle this and vary from visualizer to visualizer.

Re: iTunes and OS 10.2.8 problems

If you have a SuperDrive, back up your iTunes library. Then, delete it all. I am almost certain this will solve the problem.

When reading these posts, I always take into account our level of "maintenance." I NEVER have ANY problems with my 17" iMac or 12" Powerbook. At least, nothing I caused myself: the 10.2.8 update disabled Bluetooth in my PowerBook but I fixed it by resetting the PowerManager. I suggest that all of us who read these forums really try to maintain and be cautious what you install/delete. Those two actions are almost all the time the culprit of system problems. Macs and OS X are very well designed, but not perfect: sometimes Apple puts out a dud like the 10.2.8 update. But, if your Mac boot volume is healthy, you should be fine, just remember: everytime OS X acts funky, restart and boot into single user mode, run "fsck -y" and also repair permissions from a Jaguar CD and not from Disk Utility in your Disk Volume. I would also strongly suggest purchasing Disk Warrior: the 89 dollars is a small price to pay when a HD fails, either by human error or machine failure.

Wow. Way off topic. Back up your ACC files, wipe iTunes, re-import the, I am certain that will help.

    Good Luck!
