My computer is FAST without iTunes running and then the second I open iTunes the CPU usage shoots up to 90+%, then down, then back to 76% and fluxuates.

I am running iTunes 10.x and I tried deleting and re installing, the issue is still here. Once I close iTunes, my PC runs at 0% - 4%. any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Shane

    1) iTunes runs like a dog on Windows. That's just how it is.

    2) It may actually be doing something with those CPU cycles. have you tried leaving it for a few hours? If it's rebuilding an index and your library is large enough it may well take a while.

    3) Rather than removing iTunes, try removing your library and reimporting it. Move the songs somewhere else with explorer, then remove the dangling references in iTunes. Finally drag the media files back into the iTunes interface.

    4) Are you sure you're not RAM starved? iTunes can be a but heavy on RAM usage, and heavy swap-filing will drive your CPU up as well.

    5) Try temporarily disabling any virus checkers you may be using and see if things improve. Similarly backup software.

I have been my whole life, it must be something recent with my media or a trojan/ virus or something.

So buy a computer 3x more expensive when he has one that works? Not everyone needs a mac.

I am having the same problem with my macbook pro that I got in March but I have 16,000 songs and 55 digital copies,12 blu ray rips I got offline. I haven't done the itunes match thing but when I do, I will take most the music off my labtop hopefully this problem ends. I don't know how much my hd is but 300 gbs of data opening at the same time is most likely my issue.
