According to Apple's support document, About iTunes LP and iTunes Extras:
Although the requirements are for iTunes 9 running on Mac OS X or Windows, it does seem to imply that it would take a miracle to make iTunes LP and iTunes Extra work on current Apple TV hardware.

On the other hand, iTunes LP and Extra seem like types of feature that would work best on home theater setting. I am guessing Apple TV is getting a major hardware bump in the near future.

Hmm. That's odd. My computer monitor only has a resolution of 1024x768 and a much weaker CPU and iTunes LP plays back fine.

I agree with the OP. I believe that the Apple TV will get a hardware and software bump in the very near future (aka next Apple event). The iTunes LP and Extra features would have been added on within a day or two after the September event as they have with all other events/updates. So Apple TV update Apple, PLEASE!!

Meh. These specs are not relevant to the Apple TV. The specs you quoted are also Apple's recommended specs for playing back HD content from the store. Yet we can playback 720p HD content at 24 FPS just fine on the Apple TV (and 30 FPS if they would lift the limit).

The Apple TV uses hardware decoding via its graphic chip. Most Macs can't do that. So, instead they rely on the processor to do most of the heavy lifting.

Clearly, Apple wants iTunes Extras to work on the Apple TV. There have even been leaks to show the current Extras are built for it.

We'll get a software update sometime in the next few months to add it.
