Why can my iMac not handle the new version of itunes? It's driving me mad! I need to use the imac (500mhz with 640mb Ram) as it has by far the best airport reception but its unbearable to use itunes.
Activity monitor says that itunes is using between 60 and 86% of CPU. It can't even cope with itunes, safari & Messenger at the same time. Terrible performance. Surely this isn't right?!? This is after a clean install of Panther and updating everything.
Anyone else had this problem or shall I dig out my 9.1 cd?

Strange I have a PowerBook G3 400MHz and 512 RAM installed and I do not have issues. Using iTunes, Safari, and Mail.

That's what I was thinking but how do you get hold of one - I don't remember the problem on the older versions. Where are they now for download?

No problem on my mom's same iMac 500 G3 with iTunes tho she has a gig of ram and I'm about to update her to Tiger. That's very strange. How many songs do you have on there? And are you using the original 20gig hard drive? Got mom a 80gig 7200rpm Deskstar, makes things LOTS quicker.

Thanks for that! Mercury messenger has its share of the blame, a real memory hogger. Microsoft messenger hardly uses any memory. Things are much better now - ta all!
