Hello all,

I'm public school teacher who uses Podcasts alot.

Until yesterday the iTunes store worked fine. But our tech director installed a new internet filter that now blocks the iTunes Store.

Thankfully, she's fine with unblocking the store, but she needs the IP address for the Store to do that.

Does anybody know what it is?

Thanks greatly

The following iTunes Store Internet addresses should be added as trusted domains to any filtering software that may be running:
  • itunes.apple.com
  • ax.itunes.apple.com
  • albert.apple.com
  • gs.apple.com
from http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1379

Thanks so much! I'll give it a shot.

Still a no go on those addresses.

We're at a loss at the moment. Anybody got any ideas?

Solution

Hi guys,

Wanted to help you out. Adding a trusted domain doesn't help at all in most firewalls if the URL is accessed over SSL/HTTPS.
Typically the packet is not inspected to know the hostname, the firewall only sees the IP in SSL connections.

If you are trying to whitelist a server accessed over SSL, try to whitelist its IP range with a /16 mask or similar to cover as many IPs as possible. Apple uses akamai CDN, so you'll need to whitelist their range as well.

Thanks
