Well, there is this cycle of Bonds movies and is actually funny how Austin Powers got all the characters.

Then, I see how many chances the bad guys have to kill him but they go all the away around with the most creatives tortures.

What I do respect a lot is the music. Actually yesterday I saw Moonraker and I finally found the music from the ending titles, almost 20 years later.

Then I like Roger Moore the better still, I think it was the best era. Even everything seems very fake it was an actual movie if you know what I mean. And the Lotus Esprit was the best car of all of them.

Moore played Bond tongue in cheek, not seriously as Connery did, but I think it worked. Bond became a cartoon character, if he wasn't one all along, but so what?

Stretch-of-the-imagination plots, endless chases with all manner of transportation (have they done skateboards and Segways yet?), brushes with death every few minutes, winning against all odds, and always getting the girl. Just because these things happen to me regularly doesn't mean you'd believe they happen to a British spy.

However, silly or not, the Bond movies will always get my ticket money as long as Q Division is ready with the latest Bond gadgets!

    bond.....

has only kept it's appeal because the whole thing is done with a certain tongue-in-cheek'ness/camp quality to it.
so long as it doesn't take itself at all seriously, i'll stump up for a bond movie, or at least rent the dvd.....
on the plotlines - sometimes you think they had to exhume the horse before they flogged it. which didn't stop the scriptwriters and SFX teams from rolling up their sleeves and digging away....

I wish they'd tone down the explosions and add a little more thought. I would like to hear some decent dialogue, please. Maybe even a plot. I know it's asking a lot, but you can only blow up so many things before it gets old.

I'm also troubled by Bond's reckless sexual behavior and the exploitation of women in these films. And then there's the promotion of alcoholic beverages with his martinis (shaken, not stirred). I wish they would change those things as well.

P.S. Also, I never liked the idea that he was British.

James Bond is the idealization of the Alpha Male -- the strongest of the strong; cool, calm, calculated.

You are troubled by reckless sexual behavior? why? first of all ...what reckless sexual behavior? i have yet to see Bond sleep with a women who wasn't willing, and infact begging for it.

why the hang up about sex? sex is great

What exploitation of women? every female lead in Bond films is usually a strong willed, and professionally powerful woman, more then capable of taking care of herself.

The promotion of alcohol? this one you might acctually be onto something -- but it's a trademark -- regarless of what car he drives, or who actor plays him, or what the bad guy is ... you know you are dealing with the same man -- plus it's a link for all men, all men can order a vodka martini and feel like Bond, the link to the inner Alpha.

The story goes that Patrick McGoohan was asked to play Bond at one point, because he was already famous for playing a British secret agent on TV ("Danger Man"), but he refused because he thought the character was kind of a sleazeball. Everybody thought he was crazy. So he went off and did The Prisoner instead, and then they KNEW he was crazy. :D

Loved the Esprit, but I have to say I think the Aston Martin Vanquish was even better. Thank goodness he stopped driving BMWs!

Huh! Nothing but a souped-up Ford. Give him a TVR next time.

This has indeed just been voted the greatest movie car of all time in this poll

The Back to the Future time machine was second.

That will never happen as long as the Brocolli estate has a vested interest in the Bond legacy. In fact, the IMDB has "Martin Campbell" listed as the director.
    Casino Royale

    Sean Connery = Great
    George Lazenby = Whatever
Roger Moore = Cheesy but fun
Timothy Dalton = Stilted but capable/not comfortable
Pierce Brosnan = Embodied Bond but was a bit /Rico Suavé/Hokey

I'd say Timothy Dalton was the only good one after Sean Connery. Pierce Brosnan is a bit of a twat.

I have always hated Tomothy Dalton he will never be bond to me. Roger moore is my favorite. After celebrity jeopardy I just can't take sean connery seriously :)

As for bond cars I will always have a soft spot that first DB 5 with ejector seat and machine guns.

Don't really care if it is a Ford - the Vanquish is still a beautiful car. Would be cool to see Bond in a TVR Sagaris though, or what about a Noble M400. Both would leave the Vanquish in their dust.
