New Mac user as of a couple weeks ago. I can already say with much confidence I will never go back to the dark side. I'm thoroughly enjoying my iMac G5!

That said, I have a question. I'm using both Safair and Firefox as my internet browser. When I try to access my online banking, I get a message stating that I don't have Java, and therefore cannot continue. When I was using my PC, I would just use IE to get in to my online banking.

Is there a Java update I can download? Also, once I download and do the install, do I have to do anything for my browsers to detect it?

Thanks to everyone for their assistance. This site is fantastic for answering questions and giving advice.

Well, if you go to the Apple menu (top left corner of the screen), and select "Software Update..." you can see if there are any Java updates you're missing.

Unfortunately, some site designers make the site check the browser you're running... if it's not IE for Windows, it'll automatically give you a message saying Java/Shockwave/whatever isn't installed, even tho it is. If they bypassed that whole browser-check thing, it would probably display fine anyway, making webmasters who use them dreadfully stupid. but it's a lazy solution to getting a site to render properly on multiple browsers.
