The organizers of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity today announced that they will be honoring Bono with the first ever LionHeart Award later this month at the 61st annual festival. The award is being given for Bono's work with the (RED) campaign to raise funds for the fight against AIDS.

Alongside the honor, Bono and Apple design chief Jonathan Ive will participate in an on-stage interview to discuss their collaboration on the campaign, which has seen contributions from the purchase of (PRODUCT)RED Apple products reach $70 million. Ive last year also partnered with friend and designer Marc Newson to auction off a number of one-of-a-kind items, including a unique red Mac Pro and rose gold-plated EarPods, to benefit the (RED) campaign.
The 45-minute interview, which will represent a relatively rare public appearance for Ive, will take place on June 21. It is unclear whether video of the interview will be made available after the event, but we have contacted festival organizers to inquire about the possibility.

    (Thanks, Joe!)

I'd rock a (RED) iPhone 6. Have done with iPad cases and iPod, and my Mophie pack.

Ooh, this is interesting. Jony doesn't usually give interviews, too shy. That's probably why we've hardly ever seen him on stage.

Thank heavens Ive doesn't feel the need to wear shades everyplace he goes ;) .

    Regardless,
Great to see the effort put forward by both people, and both organizations. Would love the option of some other RED products, even desktops and accessory items.

    ::EDIT::
2nd part of my (old) reply was for a different thread, Copy / paste fail ;) .

Weird mix of people at this event. You have people from technology/start up companies, brand marking, media companies, etc. And then you have: Gisele Bündchen, David Hasselhoff, Courtney Love and Jared Leto. Huh?!?

    When he was younger, yes.

Jony was not on stage on WWDC, right? I mean, in that serious-face and slow-talking video kind of form. Right?

Bono looks like he did a Giant bong hit about 5 min before that pic was taken... not that I'd know anything about that of course...

Why not release a RED iPhone and iPad if they really care about raising money? They would fly off the shelves

Instead they auction a red Mac Pro so one rich guy can have it as a status symbol

What's the logic? Is it about raising money for a cause or a status symbol?

Did they airbrush Jony's gray shirt?

It's black now! Must be airbrushed

Either way that's not a good picture, Ivy looks scary, and Bono looks like an 80 year old

I've never known why a someone purchasing an ultimately frivolous disposable consumer product would want to tie up the buying experience with visions of africans dying.

Can't Apple just quietly donate a punch of money to good causes instead of giving Boner another chance to tell us what he's doing for charidee?

They still need to make money as a company to:

    - Keep making great products.
    - R&D for the future products.
    - Keep paying it's employee's.
    - Carry on the RED campaign.

Bono looks baked with stylish eyewear and Johnny looks like it's monday morning and completely sober. I also find it freakishly odd to look at in proportions that Jony Ive's head takes up as much space as Bono's head including hair!

How did VICE, of all people, swing getting Bono AND Jony onstage together
to be "interviewed about charity" in Cannes, of all places?!?

None of this makes any sense.
Sounds like a free, paid vakay for Bono & Ive.

True, ultimately (red) has raised very little in its lifetime. Apple could easily donate more in a year than (red) has raised in its lifetime.

It's hard to deny the facetiousness of it all...

Remember when Bono teamed up with Oprah, to sell iPods? That was another debacle in of itself, or would be for Oprah several months later when she got flustered over school kids she interviewed wanting iPods... why not tell them that they can get good grades and use that to get a job to make the money needed to buy one? But that's from 2007, the distant past...

And the best charity is done anonymously (but it prevents the advertising, ego trip, and product placement that go along with it...)
