Ive been playing with it for what 4 hours now - moving all my files etc etc and there seems to be no problems (knock on wood)...its fantastic !!!

-Front row seems abit slow playing non-quicktime movies (divx/avi)
-iphoto reported an error about disk space when I was moving 6000 photos...
    - I upgraded from an ibook G4 and my new iMac 24" has 2gbs ram/256 mb Video card and it runs like a dream (Oh my god. having 5 programs open at once and while connected to 2 other Macs, uploading data from them - is just so smooth)
_oh ok...iphoto seems to be abit buggy at full screen/loading multiple images sometimes gives me the beachball effect...

    BUT other wise great !!!!!

    Photos on the way soon

    Audio question

Quick question for you (or anyone else who has one of these):

How good is the audio on the 24"? I'm seriously thinking of getting one and using it in place of a TV. I'm wondering if the sound quality is good enough to watch TV/DVDs from across a living room, or if I'll need to buy an external speaker system.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

    computer speakers generally suck

I do NOT have one of these, but in general you will want to buy an external speaker system especially if you are talking of a living room. Try the logitech z-5550

The 24 has bigger speakers than the other models. I've yet to hear them in person but my wife called this morning to ask me to talk her through connecting everything up and getting onto her email and the internet. Whilst we were talking there was a loud wave of sound as the OS booted up, loud enough that it drowned her out. So I'd guess that for day to day working, with some tunes playing in the background, the 24 speakers will be just fine. I barely used the speakers my previous Mac inherited from my PC last time out, so may not bother connecting new ones to the 24. I'll give a better impression tomorrow night when I see and hear my iMac for the first time.

edit: I guess for watching movies and TV you probably want a new set of speakers anyway. I know I certainly would (I have a home cinema system worth around $2500, give or take).

Well - if you want to use it as a TV, I think the screen is great - Ive been playing Lego Star Wars - fantastic colours..(and I was thinking of buying a Toshiba 32" here in Japan) but Ive been playing around all day with the sound (listening to songs, just watched Spider-man 2) so I would buy some extra speakers...I love the machine but if you want to use it as a TV then buy speakers because sometimes the sound is muffled aliittle by the fact that the speakers are at the bottom of the unit.

I do want to say that my god, there is no noise coming from the machine...my fridge is louder !!!!

my 24" is on the way, but i was in a store today and the 24" speakers are suprising loud. It isnt 5.1 surround sound, but they are pretty decent! I'd listen to them first and then decide if you need more punch

Anyone know what speakers these are? Just a bit curious, since I was sort of leaning towards getting a pair of soundsticks for movies.

Logitech Z-2300s sound as good or better for much less. They are sub $100 from Amazon.

For similar $$, these Altec Lansing kill it:

With much better imput, remote options.

I'm finding I'm very happy with the ibuilt speakers. I won't be using it to watch movies but for watching the odd clip or listening whilst I work, they are ace.
