Personally I think violent games are more of a release than anything.
WTF is this Sesame Street?
I think that by developing a phrase like this people are making the problem seem less severe. Like the example in the article, pornographic, I think that saying, "Distasteful pictures of people exposing their bodies in sexual ways" certainly makes it less desirable. I think that coining a cute little phrase for violent games will only make kids want them more because they can talk to their friends about their killographic pleasures.
I think that the problem with society is not that kids can't "tell the difference between fiction and reality" (at least not kids over the age of like 5) I think that it is parent that can't tell the difference. Case and point: I was watching the Matrix with my brother, and my mom walked in during the fabled "lobby scene" and made a comment about 'so much violence' and we tried to convince her that it wasn't real and that it would never happen in real life, but she just could not seem to get past the fictional violence of the scene and just enjoy it for the cinematographic masterpiece that it is.
I heard the guy on the radio today. He seemed very pleased with himself for making up the word. I can think of many more better ones.
Bloodtastic comes to mind.
how about stupidassmatic
video game stores order violent games in bulk... a kilokillographic... god thats so dumb.
its all too 'newspeak' for me....
I've never thought about it that way before. That's exactly it, I agree completely. We obviously know what games we are palying, and that in fact they are GAMES, not real life.
I hope 2004 won't be like 1984...
At least if they'd done the latin or greek root to the word it might have come off better - pornographic is greek.
mortographic would have sounded better....
Mmm, it's so killographic. Almost bordering on Killorgasmic...mmm, bloody violance...
wonder what other words people will make up now...
You are right mortographic is a much better word.
I didn't know Latin could be so much fun.
ok after the creation of the word "McJob" can we really wonder how much further we will spiral into vocabulidiocy...whoops, i made up another word. Quick Webster, add it add it!
How about "carnagraphic"?
