I so much enjoy the iMac G3 350mhz that I bought, that I have made the decision to replace my old Toshiba Satellite 1800 P3 with a Mac.

Now, I just need advice on which one. It will be used for everything except games (the only reason I will have a Windows computer)

It might be a month or so as I need to save up :(

An Intel inside replacement for the current iBook will be released some time this spring. That will probably be a good choice. The current iBook is nice in some ways, but it's not as future proof.

    Powerbook (macbook) Pro

get a new macbook pro, once everything goes universal (which should be by the middle of the year or 3rd quarter) it is going to be the best laptop on the market. hands down.

What's the main difference between the iBook and Powerbook? I heard Asus builds one, but which?

Gotta say... OS X is brilliant :D

Between the iBooks and the 15"/17" PowerBook the main difference is that the PowerBooks are more extensible with Firewire 800 and PCMCIA card slots. Some people need that for professional use. Other than that, all the PowerBooks have faster processors and better video cards, but that's not worth the extra cost to an average user.

The MacBook Pro on the other hand is next generation Intel based. It is a leap in performance potential compared to the PowerBooks, so it's better value than the PowerBooks with regards to performance, but it's still in the pro range.

We all expect a consumer version of the Macbook soon. It will hopefully be the best value for money Mac Laptop you can get.

    Intel iBooks

I agree. They will probably release the new iBooks running on Intel sometime in the next few months. They will be a lot faster and possbily much cheaper. If you are happy with a G3 iMac than an Intel iBook would be a big step up. You are also not going to be gaming on it. The Intel iBook would suit your needs perfectly.

If you are only doing basic stuff, I would recommend waiting for the MacBook (iBook), it will probably be cheap, and have tons of power for a good price. If you can wait that is your best bet.

I can wait. I just hope the Intel's are as reliable as the PPC are.
