I'm purchasing a 18.1" LCD monitor. When I opened the box to look to make sure it was Mac compatible.

In the instructions it said:
PC's could get 1280x1024, but on a
Mac only 1024x768.

Why would this be?

The monitor is such a great deal, that I can deal with 1024x768, because I use a G3 iMac now, so anything is an improvement.

It's a Microcteck 18.1 LCD for $400 from Walmart.

Yep, auto detect should do it, I used a cheapo lcd while I was having to deal with returning my 23 inchCD to apple over and over again. The box specifically that the lcd did NOT support the Mac. The instructions even emphasized that it would not work with a Mac. I said screw it, I bet it will work anyway, so I bought it knowing that I could take it back. I plugged it up BAM it worked, and had several rez options.

BTW, it was a 15 inch.
