I checked crucial and MacBook compat. RAM (MacBook Pro) is still around $195 for a 1 gig stick... Cheaper than Apple's but not by a lot. Oddly enough if I look at other "types" of RAM that should be the same... say a 1.83 ghz vs. a 2.0 ghz there is a 30 dollar difference for 1 gig ($165). the iMac, Mac Mini, MBP, and MacBook as far as I know use the same exact RAM, so whats with the price difference within Crucial.com?

anyways (my contribution to the list)

    Crucial.com MacBook 1 gig - $195 (high) $165 (low)

please submit your finding, and only trustworthy sites :)

    OWC.

    US$112.99 for a 1GB stick.

I have two of those sticks in my iMac and have been using it with them for three months. No problems (nor with OWC RAM I bought for my PowerMac).

so, i've been looking around and found a few sticks under $90 over at newegg link and after reading the reviews, the corsair module seems hit or miss, the patriot module runs slower than 667mhz according to one of the reviews (but if any of you guys use it, some input would be nice :)), and the g.skill one is the cheapest. have any of you guys had any experience with these chips? if not, what modules have you guys installed? are they reliable? are there any other suggestions under or around $100 (other than owc)? i dont want my macbook to be restarting or whatever every 30 minutes. thanks :)

Well, since Apple does not certify RAM vendors, or third-party RAM that is a clue right there...

NewEgg (and other discounters) do NOT guarantee Mac compatiblity on any of their products. Also, none of the RAM products (AFAICS) they carry are guaranteed by the manufacturers to work in Macs. While they do sell Crucial and Kingston and Corsair modules, they sell their generic parts, not the part numbers that these companies offer for Macs.
So pc-generic discounters are the wrong place to shop if you want any assurance of compatibility.

ZipZoomFly has a great price on 1 GB modules ($89 w. free ship), and I've had great success with this brand of RAM in my iMac G5. I'm going to pick up 2 when I get my MacBook!

WTF? Datamem does not offer a single 1gig stick for the Macbook but just paired options. Come on, i know that i will loose all of 4% if i dont run dual channel, so just sell me my single stick of 1gig RAM. Thanks.

Weird. I've had nothing but success with it. It worked drastically better than the generic brand I put in before it.
