I just noticed how dark my Lombard screen is compared to my Apple Studio display. Is that just the way it is or should I be worried?

That cathode is what, 5 years old now? It's normal for some deterioration to occur. Your Apple Studio Display was probably a lot brighter to start with anyway as battery life wasn't a concern in it's design.

Lombard is a Powerbook with an LCD screen.

Your backlight might be dying - since an LCD screen doesn't actually have an intrinsic brightness (just reflective contrast). The brightness is provided by the backlight.
