Hey there, I'm the proud owner of a PowerBook 15" G4, 1.67GHz, 1GB RAM, 64MB VRAM. However, despite this beautiful laptop being a great desktop machine, it's not much for number crunching. I really need a PowerMac, and the rumored dual core PM's sound great, though the current gen don't seem worth the money. The trouble is, I won't have enough money for a display, so I was wondering, can I remote desktop into my PowerMac, using my PowerBook? What is the performance like, will I notice the lag due to remote desktop?

    Thanks.

What's your use for the computer?

What model are you looking at, the highest specked?

Have you seen Dell's great pricing on large LCD's?

Will an iMac be good for your needs?

Basically we really need more info, and to see the Powermac update not to mention :)

You can remote desktop in via a number of free and not-free programs but the lag and poor graphics performance will vertainly be noticable. I would struggle to recomend this as a long term solution.

Thanks for the honest information, that's a real shame though. I think I'll wait a little longer then, and save money for a good ACD and G5.

And to answer the first reply, no, an iMac G5 wouldn't suit my needs, though the iSight looks cool, but I already have one of those :)

If your really strapped for cash, remember you can get a cheap CRT for as little as £50...
