    Hi,
Checked out a Mac Book Pro at the Tampa Apple store. Nice unit, very nice, but very hot on the bottom. Has anyone reported this to be a problem with the unit?? Is Apple addressing this problem???

    Thanks.

haha - yeah the macbook pro runs slightly hotter (was a lot hotter without the smc firmware upgrade - right now - its not too terrible, i mean - it's still hot....but not uncomfortable....

i dont use my mbp on my lap so maybe that's why it doesn't bother me

btw - im from tampa as well, heh

Another Tampa user here! Maybe we should have a party.

Anyway, The Tampa store is probably the worst Apple store in existence, so I wouldn't count on them updating the firmware.

You must also keep in mind that the computers in the store only sleep at night, so if you go to the store later in the day, they will naturally be hot.

BTW, my MB is cooler than my now-refunded MBP....

    Are you kidding?

YES! That is the ONLY widespread problem with the MBP.

It would be a mistake for any guerilla revolutionaries or military to use MacBook Pros... thermal optics would light them up like a las vegas casino

this subject is getting a little worn out. And it seems to me it was only with the first MBP's.
Was working on a Vaio from a friend of mine the other day. 3 things struck me:
1: damn, what an ugly computer
2: boy is it thick compared to our MBP
3: it gets warm despite the ugly fan outlet on the bottom

And our MBP only really gets warm. Not hot.

I have a newly released MBP (glossy screen) and it gets hot on the bottom towards the back. You wouldn't want to sit this puppy in your lap for very long. But as long as it doesn't overtemp any components, I don't care. I've never sat a laptop in my lap.

I was there over Memorial Day weekend. Have they upgraded the firmware before or after that date.

I was playing with the MBP and the Apple guy came around. He asked what I thought. I told him it was a heck of a unit. Great computer on top, and a nice George Forman on the bottom. He said it wasn't that hot. My wife told him to put it on his lap for 5 minutes and we'll buy it!!! He walked away!!

btw, I think the Vaio's are marvelous looking units. They're not Mac's, but still a nice unit. It's nice to have the Sony store and the Apple store in the same mall in Tampa. You can compare quickly.

And I'd vote for the Apple store in Legacy Village, Cleveland as the worst.

What I wonder is, if they run hot now, what will happen once they get packed full of dust?
