We regret to announce that Mac Developer Journal has ceased publication after its the Summer 2004 issue.

We appreciate the support of all our subscribers, but we were unable to make Mac Developer Journal successful enough to continue into 2005.

The balance of subscribers' paid subscriptions will be fulfilled with Macworld magazine. Current subscribers to Macworld will have their current subscriptions extended. All subscribers will be notified by first-class mail with information about how many issues of Macworld they will receive. If any subscriber does not hear from us in the next few weeks, call us at 1-800-288-6848. There is no need to respond in order to start receiving Macworld issues. However, if you're a subscriber and would like a refund, please contact us at 1-800-288-6848 in the U.S. (1-515-243-3273 outside the U.S.), or simply send an e-mail to subhelp@macworld.com.

I guess I am too late to subscribe. The Apple's Developer site will have to do for now. This will be a good year to start developing Mac OS X apps with all the new capabilities of Tiger. Dashboard or Automator Magazine anyone?

    I wish!

I've just started getting into OS X programming (Apple Select developer as of late October) and was looking forward to MDJ as a resource. Too bad it tanked so quickly!

There is still MacTech Magazine, I just subscribed to it. Nice programming articles. I stumbled upon it at a local Borders. http://www.mactech.com

MDJ -- We hardly knew ye

I already asked for the refund (probably to go towards a safari booksheld subscription at O'Reilly's) as I don't have an interest in Macworld magazine.

MDJ was a great magazine. I have all of them from the initial digital premiere issue. It filled a great gap between blindly stumbing through the Apple docs and buying full books that only covered normal, introductory stuff. Articles peeked into niches of the OS, as well as mainstream dev topics, and were generally well written at various level of expertise with diverse authors and great examples.

I hope that some publisher, possibly an online-only publisher that *gets* the business model of online-only and developers, decides to take this niche up and get into the game. I'd be happy to hitch on to another magazine fitting this profile. It's a loss to the dev community for Apple that it ended so quickly. I feel it's also a short-sighted and foolish error by Macworld to seize that group of people that is probably going to grow as the platform is growing.

Mactech is ok, but it's just not as in-depth as MDJ is/was. I would personally see if you can buy the back-issues on Zinio. They are worth it.
