Mac Developer weblog follows the warrantied repair of a dead...

    Wow, he had a hard time. My iBook decided to die the other day, and it's still under warranty, so I'll post a quick rundown of what happened with me. I'm in New Zealand so what happens over here could be different than in the US.

    First, I rang Apple. I wasn't put on hold, mind you I did ring at about 8pm. After explaining my situation, I was told to take the iBook to an AppleCentre. I rang the local AppleCentre and they said they could fix it, replacing any parts as necessary.

    I'd like to give you a happy ending, but you're going to have a cliffhanger. My iBook's currently still at the AppleCentre. But I haven't run into any contradictions or anything yet.

    My iBook battery all of a sudden died at about 3 months old. It had just locked up after my wife touched me and I got a static shock. I figured this shock transmitted to the computer. When I rebooted, the battery icon was X'd out. Sure enough, the battery was stuck in the 1-blinking light state, although I knew it was 100%.

    To make a long story short, I wouldn't accept this behaviour, and didn't want the return hassles. I shorted it thinking the leads must be paired up from the outside in. It worked and resetted! The battery has been perfect ever since!

    Quite the spark though! haha

    I've had trouble nearly as bad, which I don't care to recount here. I can sympathize with the poor guy. But he's right about AppleCare--it's worth the money.
