Anyone have an idea of what the Mac Genius makes a year in salary? There are some openings near me and I want to have an idea of what I might be getting myself into.
Thanks!

A bit out of date, but this is the best speculation I could find.

I considered it too, until I read this ..

That's a good article...thanks for the link....wish we had more info that is up-to-date. I'm unemployed right now and attending school for Visual C# .NET programming but a Mac Genius position would be nice until I can find something in my field. Benefits and the bonus' aren't bad but I need to know the current salary range.

Why not apply, and if the salary isn't what you want, reject their offer?

I consider that a waste of time...and could backfire. What if I later on want to just work there part time? They might not consider me because I refused their offer for whatever reason. Don't you think so?

expensive

Can you train as an independant 'Genius' ?

There are a number of Mac users in Canada, but bearly any Apple shops!
Are you asking me can I train? If so...I have considered it but it is very expensive...sure, the investment in the training is going towards making a living but it is still an expense to put out without a gaurantee of earning that money back. This is why this position that is open has kind of drawn my interest....Apple will pay for training.

I was thinking along the lines of Apple training remotely located, potentially independant, Apple Genius' - I guess that's already covered by Service Providers.

In the US Apple Stores, Mac Specialists (sales associates) get paid $10/h and Geniuses get paid $20/h... Insufficient if you ask me, but most of them seem to really like their jobs.

Shoot... I'd work as a Mac Genius for $20/hr. Im bored here at work anyway, and I dont really care much for my job, and I make less than that. Plus, what do they get, something like a 10-20% discount on Apple stuff. The only downside is that I'd not be able to hang around MR all day.

I'm with you on that...I'm considering it now. Another draw back is that it is retail...I worked in retail before and it can be a pain dealing with "customers". Kidding...that comes with the territory...even in an Apple store.
Ok so thus far I have...
Pluses: ok pay, discount, possible bonuses, benefits, possible "free" stuff.
Negatives: it's retail, pay is ok, working weekends, it's retail.
