I know there is an extra CD-ROM bay on the new Mac Pros that has an IDE connector. Has anyone tried putting an IDE drive into that bay?

I have an extra 250 GB Seagate 7200.9 drive laying around that I would love to use! I also wonder if it would get better performance in Windows. The transfer rate on the SATA drives is horrible! (I know there is only one IDE bus that a hard drive must share with the SuperDrive, but still...)

    Has anyone tried this??

Just doing some planning as I wait for my mac pro to arrive..... (3 weeks and counting!)

Yes, this has been commented on in several posts...

The IDE drive will have far faster transfer rates than SATA drives at the moment while under windows.

I know it has been talked about before. (That is where I got the idea.)

But has anyone actually tried it???

Yes, I did it. Search for some of my posts and you will see. It does't work as well as I had hoped, but you can make it work.

Thanks! I will do that right now. I've read a lot of posts about it, but when I did a search I didn't find any success stories. Thanks again!

EDIT - I found the post I was looking for! slow SATA Performance

I was doing searches for IDE and not PATA!

Hopefully with the link above anyone searching for IDE and Mac Pro can find this post and link back to your first posts.

    Thanks again!!
