Mac Pro Seeking Monitor for Friendship and Love?!?

Goofy title, eh?

I have MP currently paired with an Acer 24" monitor but often find myself needing more screen real estate.

Costco's website has both the HannsG HG-281DPB and Viewsonic VX2835WM monitors on for (on) sale at $499. Both are using the same panel (probably TN) and are 28" rated and 27.5" viewable. I'm not doing any gaming and not doing any color work that would require really precise color callibration. I know you get what you pay for and if these monitors are as good as my current then they'll be fine. I'm just wondering if anyone has either of these and can provide feedback or help me choose which one. Thanks.

The problem you will have is that if you look at the resolutions of the screens, the 24" and 28" will more often than not have the same screen resolution. You really need a higher resolution display if you're running out of space on your 24", and the only widely available higher resolution panels can be found in 30" displays.

Yeah, your going to have to suck it up and get a 30"... I did and now I can never go back. I worked in various monitor setups, dual, tri... and nothing compares to one FAT desktop... 2560x1600 is nothing to shake a stick at... (what?!?)

Yeah, resolution is everything. It's the reason 22" monitors with the same resolution as 20" monitors are basically pointless IMO.

i would recommded you get another 24inch acer OR a 30inch

Going to a 28" will also mess up WYSIWYG.

yeah stay away from Hannspree/Hanns-G branded displays.
i wont even get into it, but one of the main reasons horrible back lighting (if any at all!)

28" dont offer any great screen resolution the as a 24" monitor or so.

Hp, Dell and Samsung make some quality decently priced 30" displays

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I know that both are 1920x1200. The issue I have is that I spent $399 for the Acer about a year ago (you can probably get it for about $299 today) and I can dish another $100-$200 for a larger monitor just not $1,000+ to jump to 30".

In some respects, I'd be better off going to 2 x 24" which would give me more real estate than even a 30" and be cheaper too. The problem is that I don't have the desk space for 2 monitors. Even a 30" is going to push it size-wise.

It sounds like though, judging by the comments that the Viewsonic is a preferable choice to the HannsG.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the 23" ACD is about that price and has the same resolution of all you're talking about.
