Hi,

I bought a new battery on eBay for my A1278 Macbook 13, upon installing it, it wouldn't start charging. Tried old battery again and it charged up just fine. Put new battery in waited for 5 min and it started smoking pulled plug immediately. Apparently the new battery was shorted. Had to remove logic card to find smoked part next to the battery cable connector. It would appear to be a hi wattage SMT resistor between the battery cable connector and the ram socket. At this point there's nothing left of it, just a melted lump. I wonder if anyone knows what the value is, it doesn't look that hard to replace. Just have to get in there.

Thanks

I don't think this is particularly helpful, but I think it needs to be said: Never buy computer parts on eBay, unless you've had positive prior dealings with the seller. Saving a few bucks isn't worth the risk of trashing your computer.
