Macbook Air battery won't charge, and random shutdowns

    Hi guys,
I have a the base 13 in 2011 model MacBook Air. For the past couple days is has been randomly shutting down while on battery power.

It's at 74% battery, but when plugged in says either 'not charging', saying 'calculating time until full' and never displaying anything else, or it displays ludicrous amounts of time remaining until full (like 4-20 hours)

I've tried all of the suggestions on http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964 but so far it hasn't solved the problem. Restarting, sleep/wake, shutdown, and SMC reset all haven't done anything.

I'm pretty sure the random power offs have only happened on battery power, but I feel like it was plugged in when it crashed while playing assassin's creed.

The system information app says that the battery is charging, but it's been plugged in for a while and it hasn't moved from 74%. There isn't an Apple Store any where near me so I really don't want to have to mail it in and be without my computer.

    Any thoughts?

The only things I can suggest is to reset the SMC again, and perhaps even calibrate your battery, even though it came pre-calibrated. Other than that, it looks like it's going to have to go to Apple. Also, if you're playing a game while charging, it's possible that it may not charge or may even drain the battery, depending on the game involved. This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:

Yeah I can understand how it might not charge while running the game, but it's been sitting there for a good 45 minutes not doing anything, but still no charging.

Launch Activity Monitor and change "My Processes" at the top to "All Processes". Then look to see what may be consuming system resources. Also, check out the Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters link in the CHARGING section of the Battery FAQ.

Well the power adapter troubleshooting didn't lead to any success. Activity Monitor says the CPU is 90-95% idle so it doesn't look like there is any heavy drain on the battery.

Unfortunately, it sounds like a trip to Apple is in order.

    Gah, :(
    Thanks for the help!
