Call Apple. I believe they said they would take care of this problem.

You better call ASAP, I called 2 days ago and I just received the box to send it back.

You could probly do an exchange at the Apple store, actually.

well i guess i'm gonna take it to the apple store tomorrow. should i go ahead and take out the new hard drive and ram, or just bring the old ones with it and see what they say first?

You can bring them in they just won't be covered under applecare, there is no reason to switch back to the old one's,

Yeah, the only way that I would take them out is if you are having an electronic related problem, because then, they wouldn't be covered and if they replaced the whole computer, then its possible you might not get them back.:)

thanks. so if i take it in, and they agree to fix it, how long will it take? how hard would it be to just swap it out for a new one (within 14 days)? if i did that, i'd have to take out the ram and hard drive, or would they do it?

well it looks like i'm taking it in to the apple store tomorrow. any words of advice? i guess i'll just bring everything with me just in case -- box, ram, hard drive, screwdriver -- just in case they say "you can swap for a new one" but i might have to take out the ram and hard drive myself

they're no longer swapping for new ones, or so applecare told me over the phone. they did that initially i think because they didn't entirely know what the problem was.

i don't have a store nearby, so i had to go the box route when mine discolored, but it was REALLY quick. i had DHL pick my box up at 4pm last wednesday, and friday at noon fedex was dropping it back off.

in store might take a little longer if they don't have the part on hand.

    good luck!

Do what I did. I brought my girlfriend's MB in, they took a look at it, and said I could either leave it with them or just go back whenever the parts come in. I went home with MB on hand, then after 2 days, they gave me a call. I went to the apple store first thing in the morning (10am) and I was done before lunch time. Just make sure you get there early so they could fix your computer first also!

thanks. yeah i plan on getting there at 10am, hopefully they'll have the parts.

since it's still within the 14 days, you think they still won't let me swap it out for a new one?

Im guessing they'll let you swap it with a new one. My gf's was about 1 1/2 months old already when we had discoloration. Just dont forget your ram and your HD:D

I have a week 25 2GHz MacBook that has started to show signs of discoloration. I've had it for three weeks.. only because it was a replacement for my first one with the same problem.

I took this one to my Apple Store and the manager gave me the "well, what do you want me to do about it?" attitude. He explained to me that it was the whole it-may-be-the-oils-in-your-hand yadayadayada. That's fine, but I don't want to accept it simply because it comes with the territory of owning a white laptop. I am so happy with the performance of it and, believe me, the last thing I want to do is take all of my stuff off of here and put it on a new one. I just wish there was a product that acutally cured this problem that a handful of us are having.

    /end rant.

so you just kept it with the staining? has it gotten worse with time?

i have a feeling i might end up keeping it as-is, but i feel it's worth the trip to see what they say

trust me. it's worth the two trips to Apple. it will get worse...much worse if you don't get that plastic replaced. mine started out as a "uhm.. am I seeing something" shadow-like, but two weeks later it had turned into a blackish-red staining all over my palm rests and it was VERY apparent.

well i just got a phone call saying that they got the part in today. even though i was there earlier, but better sooner than later i guess. now i either have to go there tonight or tomorrow. hopefully tonight and get it over with. they are saying that i have to leave it for a few days, did others have to do this, or did they just fix it while you were there?

Maybe you should point the manager in the direction of this page on the Apple site:

    "About white MacBooks' palmrest area
If your MacBook is exhibiting discoloration on the top case after some use, please contact AppleCare for service."
