    My brand new MacBook of about a week old has a display issue. The closest word I have to describe it is 'noise'. I've tried to take photos many a time, but anybody who has trued taking an focussed shot of a screen with a cheap China-brand digicam will know how hard it is. The best example I've managed to get of it so far is this one (thanks somebody's sig on another forum);

    See the green pixels?

    Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it happens. On the desktop it appears in bands around the countours of the colours of the backgroud image. If I drag a window over the noise in the desktop, it disappears.

    I've tried searching through Mac problem forums & the like & whilst there is a similar problem with MBPs I haven't seen any other examples of the problem on the MBnonP.

    So is this a hardware problem, or is it just poor drivers/firmware for the Intel GMA graphics chip? I use this machine every day, so I'm not going to be able to send it back under warranty until the end of term in June, but if it's simply a case of a quick firmware update then I can avoid the hassle.

    More photos I tried to take, with mixed success;

    See the brigher pixels;

    Even easier to see in this one;

    White pixels that should be grey around the close/maximise buttons;

    The problem is that I rely on this machine every day for my degree work & I can't afford to be without it for 3 weeks+. Unless Apple's policy is to send a replacement unit first & then for me to send the defective unit once that has arrived, I can't send it off for repair/replacement any time before the end of the semester in June. (Before you ask, the nearest Apple store is a 12 hour journey & I'm not prepared to pay for the ticket).
