mkay i have a black macbook that is not wanting to move past the gray screen. first it had a flashing question mark on a file folder icon and now it's making clicking noises from where the disc drive is. tried to reset the PRAM, nothing happened, and it's not booting... :( :( :(

ANY suggestions would be extremely appreciated!!!

Try starting up in Single User Mode (hold down command+s at startup), where you should then run fsck to check the hard disk. The details are here: link.

If that doesn't help then I'd give a call to AppleCare, or take it to your local Apple Store if that's more convenient. It doesn't sound like an easily-solved problem.

boot from the recovery disc (1) and run disc utility...repair permissions....if that doesn't work then go to the apple store or call applecare.
