    Just found it here: http://www.hardmac.com/news/2006-12-06/#6199

"Last Monday, we have received a message from Pierre-Yves.

I wanted to purchase a MacBook Pro 17" Core 2 Duo, but I was told that they had received a message from Apple asking for not taking orders of MB Pro anymore; with not additional information.

We were following this news, waiting for additional information, comments or reports, and today we have received another message from FxParis.

I have received the following message from my Apple Reseller:
"bad news: MacBook Pro 15" production is temporary stopped due to a quality issue identified on non-glossy LCD panel. There is no additional information!"

It remains unclear if the production is stopped for all MacBook Core 2 Duo or only for those models with the non-glossy widescreen LCD display.

Surprisingly we have received very few reports about problems with MB Pro C2D. Apple might have increased its quality control checks to avoid repeating similar problems encountered with the first MB Pro Core Duo model. Indeed, it costs much less money to stop production for couple of days to fix the problem than paying LCD panel exchange for thousands of MBPro owners.
For sure it is a bad timing with the Christmas period approaching."

That would be quite interesting. Im happy with my MBP but screen drives me crazy.. my eyes are constantly tired due to extremaly poor viewing angles (cant really describe it - its like constantly looking at extremaly uneven iluminated screen where you have to move your head all the time to get the better picture). Is it only me who have the same problem?

Today, Apple is advertising a 24 Hours dispatch for their MBPs in Apple UK Online Store.

You shouldn't be having to move your head up and down to get a good viewing angle. Have it checked out. Every MBP I've seen has a beautiful display with great viewing angles.

    Is this C2D, glossy, matte?

Its a glossy one.. its really hard to describe. Its not a problem when Im looking at "busy" and colorful pics. But when I have to work on something with eg. huge, white areas I have impression that only a center is evenly iluminated.. maybe I need to get used to it (or get external screen:)

Maybe because this is a RUMOR, not fact...?

Why would you assume this is true without independent supporting evidence?

Largest German Apple retailer Cancom (www.cancom.de) is waiting for 438 pre-ordered MBPro units. For the MBPro 15" 2.16 GHz version - 211 outstanding deliveries alone. They haven't received a shipment of MBPros for three weeks now.

We all know that delivery problems for newly launched apple products is not uncommon, but this is really a lot of outstanding stuff! I hope I'll get mine in time to put it under the x-mas tree. Apple product-packaging is sooo awsome! Who would ever unwrap anything else? Besides ...

I think this is no more than a rumor. If it is true then kudos to Apple quality control!

So if this is true, would it be best to purchase a Mac now or wait?

I wish its true.. my screen is very badly affected by uneven ilumination (it looks like grey gradient from right side to left) and Im considering calling applecare to repair it (Im scared of getting replacement right now:( Also there is something strange happening to my case - not the usual gap thingy but my sace developed small bump where the hatch is. It was perfect when MBP arrived and now there is a gap, around 1.5 milimiters wide. I just need to confirm that this is just example of aluminium body and not something more serious.. now I will just wait:)

Well first off, the rumor is regarding the non glossy screen. This would exclude your system.

Secondly, what you are describing would relate to privacy screen coating, or an older passive matrix LCD screen. Did you feel you had issues with your screen before, or did they just "come up" after reading this rumor ?

I hope this doesn't turn into a repeat of the 15" Powerbook display line issue threads! I can't count how many hypochondriacs that issue generated after people who had been perfectly happy with their powerbooks, read about a problem that effected a select few powerbooks.

:) Nope:) I was just wondering why my eyes reacting so badly to this screen.. I dont mind "grain" but this "grey gradient" makes me uneasy. I went to the local Apple reseller and checked the 17'' glossy MBP C2D - it was absolutely better than my 15''. Still dont know why really but Im trying to find the reason

Though i like my MBP 15" matte a lot, the LCD is admittedly one of the worse features on this computer. If this is true i hope they offer redesigned LCDs to C2D owners! Recent pictures of C2D Macbook Pros seems to indicate that they improved the LCDs.

if not, that's totally not fair.

I looked on apple store: 1-2 days shipping for 15 compared to 24 hour for the 17? Wasn't it the other way around?

hm. I want a new screen lol.

I remember taking pictures of my screen with my cell phone for the brightness display thread, trying to find the perfect angle for the screen. I couldn't. At every angle, at least one part of the screen was dim...including holding the phone directly in front of the computer where my "eyes" would be. The grain does not really bother me though.

    PLEEASS NEW SCREEN!

edit: anyone ring AppleCare and complain about the screen after the original post was made?

hm all other mac products are available within 24 hours, even the Mac Pro. US store shows 15" available in 1-2 days, 17 in 24.

Ok, so i went to my university's bookstore, where they still have the CD mbps for display. I look at the screeen and take a picture of it on my cellphone and compare it to another picture I have of my own.

The screen on the display mbp is 9c57, mine is 9c60.

from the cellphone's POV, the 57 is more evenly lit than my 60 (but it wasnt perfect). So i'm assuming the C2D is the ones that are affected, rather than the CDs.

the CD ones are also affected... I have a core duo MBP, and it has a 9C60 screen. while better than most 9C60's I've seen pictures of, mine isn't "perfect" either... this has been a lingering problem
