Hi people... MBP had been out for several months now and was thinking... how good is it compare to PB as I 'm using it now. Anyone using a PB and MBP or had switched to MBP pls gimme your suggestions and enlightenment. Seriously... Been thinking bout it for some times and was trying to make a choice other than getting a iMac too for sure. Thank you.

There are way too many variables to consider (what you are using it for, what you need, your price range, blah blah blah). I have used the macbook pro lightly and it looks like a great machine. however, i am always wary of Revision A models. That being said, I just bought a 1.67ghz powerbook from another member on this website and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with it.

The key is just to be satisfied - there will always be a newer model out there, but is it worth it to spend a few hundred every time something new comes out? for you, maybe, (and that's fine) but for me, no. I have been using a 600mhz ibook for 4 years. other people have been using their laptops longer. others upgrade every new generation. if you have money in your budget and you get a smoking deal on a mbp, maybe go for it.

I went from a 15" PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz to a 15" MacBook Pro 2.0 GHz and I'll be honest the PowerBook is cr@p compared to the MBP. It really depends on your needs though all of my software is universal or Intel native, when I tried stuff via Rosetta I found it to be slow and pretty much useless. YMMV

As for the comments above about Rev A the MacBook Pro has had 5+ revisions already:

As of April 2006, there have been five revisions of the MacBook Pro, A-E. Serial numbers of the original begin with W8608.

    W8608, Rev. A.
    W8609, Rev. B.
    W8610, Rev. C.
    W8611, Rev. D.
    W8612, Rev. E.

Mine is a week 21 model and it has no issues at all. It runs perfectly cool, and doesn't make any weird moo or whine noise. I'll go far as to say the MacBook Pro is the best notebook I've ever owned. If you don't need PPC apps the Core Duo version is amazing, if you want to wait for a Core 2 Duo version go for it I'm sure they'll be just as good.

i switched over from a 12" Rev. C to 17" MBP week 22 and its like a whole new world. The MBP boots faster, runs programs (even word and things like that in Rosetta) more fluidly and quicker, loads things ridiculously faster and significantly outperforms with programs like Logic. The added screen real estate (my main reason for the switch for hings like excel at work and school) and backlit keyboard are amazing.
