Sorry for yet another MB question! I've been following the threads but I don't recall this particular question being asked:

I need some comparative info. I currently carry around a (borrowed) 15" Powerbook and I find it way too heavy and large since I also have to lug books (more than your mere mortal, believe me!) in my bag too. I was, before the intels arrived on the scene, going to buy a 12" PB or iBook since they are considerably smaller and lighter. Now the intels seem tempting, but they are only .4 of a pound less than the 15" PB. Are these things (MB's) monsters to carry around? Is the difference in weight between a 12" PB and a MB noticeable when you've got it in a bag on your back? Is the size difference (closed, not screeen size!) between a 15" PB and a MB noticeable?

Unfortunately, there is no apple store out here and the university only has an iMac and MBP on display, so you all are my eyes and hands!

Thanks (and sorry about all the parentheses [or brackets if you're British, Aussie, or Kiwi]:p).

    This might help!: http://flickr.com/photos/svet/165698535/

I have a 14" iBook and it gets amazing battery life, but it's a little heavy and cumbersome and kind of ugly (lol). For me, lifting the MB seemed to require more effort than the MBP, but I think that's because the MBP has the weight spread out over 2 extra inches so it gives the impression of being lighter.

Cool! Thanks! That helps. I've seen other pics like this, but none relevant. I think what I'm hearing though is that I'm not going to notice much difference in weight. When I think about the weight differences in metric, my question seems kind of silly... I'm worried about the difference of less than 500g?! That's the curse of growing up in metric and moving to the US - a pound seems huge!

So would you say that the MacBook is less ugly than the iBook?:D No offense to iBook lovers, but I always thought they looked kind of grimy after a few weeks use, cleaned or not. In the pics the white MB looks like the iBook to me (I ain't forking out $150 for a paint job!). I vote for clamshell colors!

The Macbook appears to be nicer, but it's made out of the same material as the iBook (I think) so it might have the same grimy look after a while. Overall the Macbook looks much better though, less toy-like and cheap. You can kind of see in that picture that the Macbook is slimmer and a brighter white (though that could just be because it's new and the iBook isn't). The keyboard also makes it look a little more stylish.

I believe that the 12" PB was the lightest of all Apple notebooks and it was like 4.5 pounds and the Macbook comes in at 5.2 pounds.
