Hi, im a newly switched mac user.. My macbook arrived yesterday and it is beautiful......

Ok, To cut a long story short.. How do i save settings on this machine??

What i mean is,, i put a new wallpaper, configured the trackpad the way i like, removed some icons from the dock and added some new icons from programs i had installed..

Now, after i turned my macbook off for a couple of hours and then put it back on.. Everything is set to default...This has happened twice to me now....

    Wat am i doing wrong???

    Thanks...

For some reason or another, your identity (user folder) is being lost and being recreated fresh (and empty of your changes).
You didn't manually rename any folders inside Users did you?

Yes. Don't rename any folder that you did not create. This is a UNIX computer, renaming certain folders will mess it up entirely.

Log into a new user account, navigate back to the user account folder that's causing you grief, and change its name back to exactly what it was. :)

You can create a new user account in System Preferences, under the Accounts pane. If you can't remember the old name of your current account, then just use the new account. Once you've made it, go to your Users folder and copy everything from inside your current account into the new account's folder. This means you should retain all your settings and files in the new account. Then, just work from this new one. :)

Did that make any sense?
