i just got a Seagate 120gb sata replacement hard drive and when i installed it it did not see the hard drive when starting the installation of OSX. do i need to do anything special to get the macbook to see the new drive or do i probably just have a bad drive?

Go to ifixit.com, look up their guides, and make sure you did it EXACTLY like the pictures they show you

That is the same drive that I put in my MB. I had no problems so I would say that you must have gotten a dud. Once you get a good one they are great. Good Luck

Did you boot from the OS X Install Disc and rather than start the installation, open Disk Utility instead? You should see the drive listed there, but it will probably require formatting before the OS X installer will see it...
