Apple's public beta program for macOS Sierra is now live following this morning's announcement that both iOS 10 and macOS Sierra would be made available today. macOS Sierra will include a number of changes and new features such as Siri integration, Apple Pay for Safari, Auto Unlock via Apple Watch, and improvements for Photos, Messages, and Apple Music.

As with iOS 10, users interested in testing out macOS Sierra should visit Apple's Beta Software Program website for more details and to register for the program. Once accepted, you should be able to access a redemption code and download link to allow you to access the Sierra installer in the Mac App Store. Make sure you have a complete backup of your system before upgrading.

Our macOS Sierra roundup has all of the details on what's new for Mac and users are discussing the changes in our macOS Sierra forum.

The only feature I'm interested in is unlocking my mac with my watch. Pity they don't do public betas of WatchOS after folks kept bricking theirs during the WatchOS 2 beta last year.

Any confirmation that Developer Beta 2 is the same as Public Beta 1?
Why wouldn't it be?

Not complaining, as I appreciate the upgraded features and attention to macOS—but this is the first time in awhile that I don't feel an extreme excitement and urgency to upgrade. And that's ok. But just trying to sort through why.
  1. Siri isn't something I want to use, especially around people, but we'll see if it surprises me (Siri frustrates me more than brings me joy)
  2. New iTunes.. meh, well see
  3. Optimize storage, not something I trust right now, would rather do things manually

I would have loved to have seen a better, more efficient way to navigate files, manage windows, spaces, and so on.

Either way, I love El Capitan. So if this is more of that, I'm satisfied and will update with the official release.

Want to download this but need FCPX to run smoothly!

Create another partition and install from USB, then reload FCPX to make sure running correctly

Exactly! IMO, people should generally avoid betas unless they own multiple computers and have a "spare" or "secondary" one to play with it on.

Or install on separate partition

I redeemed my code but for some reason the beta isn't showing up in the Mac Store. Anyone else experiencing this?

anyone know the sudo command for creating a bootable usb for this public beta?

Have searched but everything I see is for developer beta which is incorrect command string

Looking forward to this beta, which I'm downloading on a secondary MacBook Air. I need to test out if/how Aperture works with Sierra. Yeah, I'm a dinosaur!! I have about 50k images in my Aperture library and it works perfectly for my workflow. (And, yes, I've tried LightRoom and On1, and neither is as easy or quick for me as Aperture. Probably a learning curve thing!)
