Safari got bumped up to 26.0.1

I'm not sure about Tahoe, but Safari 26.0.1 has been available for Sequoia since at least early last week. (It just showed up in Settings / Software Update and I installed it, I'm not on a beta channel or anything.)

That never came out for Tahoe, since it only fixed Compact mode for Sequoia.

hm interesting thing to note, so it was removed in Safari 26 but was given back in Safari 26.0.1. I'll probably install it on my M1 MacBook Air later so maybe there is a chance that compact tabs are back in 26.0.1 in Tahoe??? Still doubt it tho...

No, compact tabs are permanently gone in Tahoe (it's intentional, not a bug). But they broke them on Sequoia with Safari 26, and then fixed it with 26.0.1.

I'd suggest you not install Tahoe on M1, at least for now, unless you're ok with frequent frame drops in Quick Look, Mission Control, and other basic OS animations.

Upgraded my M3 iMac (16GB/1TB) to Tahoe 26.0.1 yesterday. Used it early this morning for a couple of hours then put it to sleep by pressing the Touch ID button. Woke it up 4 hours later and saw an error message I've never seen before... somehow my Messages app was using 47GB (!!!) and everything had "paused" as a result. I did a hard restart and everything seems fine again. A half-hour later Messages is happy at 186MB. Not necessarily blaming this on Tahoe 26.0.1 but I've been using Macs since 2003 and this is the first time this has ever happened -- barely 24 hours after installing the update. Just sayin'.

PS -- The error is "Your system has run out of application memory."

This update did not fix the issue I posted earlier.

"Apple TV App. Go to your movies. tv shows, home videos. Do a search in any of those categories. Once the item is found. Click it once to select it and ATV crashes every single time. I have confirmed this to happen on my wife's MBA M2 15" as well as my iMac M3 24gb 4port Mac."

Impressions thus far;
(coming from multiple OSes, consider me.. neutral)

- The new windows corner padding is inconsistent with each and every non-Apple software window out there. One border padded this way, the other (on top it) another way.
Don't care if it's padded, rounded or 90 degrees sharp, this isn't an aesthetics-related criticism.
Like i said, inconsistent. You shouldn't be encountering so much visual incongruity in an OS renowned for the care put into it.
This needs fixing; you have two or more windows expanded, it's really noticeable. They do and do not overlap and depending on the situation, this can have some -small- impact on what you're doing.

- The new.. background? Background coloring? Of context menus is yet again inconsistent with the context menus of so many other non-Apple programs.
Worse yet, sometimes the OS tries to re-colour the context menu already opened, resulting in a visual annoyance, as the menu literally changes colour right in front of you; while you're meant to be clicking on it.
Funny when the inverse occurs, you open a context menu, it's coloured a-la Glass(tm), but the menu belongs to a non-Apple software; thus menu reverts back to a Sequoia-reminding background.
Yet again, not aesthetics, this is.. not why you pay premium for.

- Being a user of many OSses and master of none?
Right now, stock 26.0.1 (appearance/looks-wise, no external theming), i might as well be on a Linux KDE environment.
I literally couldn't tell you, at a glance, if i'm on Mac or Archlinux. I gotta /raise the dock to go, 'ooh, right, this is a Mac'.
Whoever thought "Glass" through, conceptually i mean, needs firing.
Archlinux+KDE is free. Thousands and thousands of US/EU/bananas cheaper than the Mac required to run an OS.
For a third time, nothing to do with aesthetics (i actually love KDE, for me this is a bonus).
This is about.. a direction Apple is taking that seems intent on removing everything that made it visually distinct, at a glance. I mean what a sell point right there, and they're taking it away, lol
Fire him/them. Now.

- Love it or hate it, the new "Apps" needs to be resizeable/moveable, ie permanently, respecting what the user desires. Bad eyesight say.. it's too small as it is and, well, you can't fix that, sorry, lol! Something so simple, elementary, lacking. But beyond that;
i) You either scroll and scroll and scroll to find a program...
ii) Or you type. Type. Some 40 years after having invented GUIs and mouses, we're back to typing? For a simple highlighting/selecting?
Whoever thought of that also needs to get fired. They do not belong in Apple.
(forget spotlight, forget being used to Launchpad so i don't like/care anyway. Think on the above logically; just plain old logic, does it make sense to you)

- I love how Siri is labeled Beta, but is forced down my throat anyway.
Most sheep, sorry, i meant "users", will leave it on anyway, right? They won't disable it, it's the "new thing" after all; hype! So they're effectively training it for free, as they are its infering; good one you guys :)
And we also keep its files un-deletable, 'cause why not?
i) They might change their minds if they can't delete it and activate it again later, so bonus, more sheep training our model for free
ii) we sell iCloud+, so the more their HDDs are subpar storage-wise? The more clients we get! Let's force some extra, unwanted gigs down their HDD's throat, they'll cave in eventually
Win win
(in plain ole British, that's cun-ty)
((history shows that sheep, sorry, i meant "users", will excuse cun-ty; if, if, they're given something back. In this OS, i am plain not seeing it))

- Would have more to say, but it would apply to decisions/mentalities evident before Tahoe, so refraining.

+ Preview has a dark mode now.
This is literally the only thing of practical benefit. Not to everyone, but.. those that use dark mode can now finally use preview without getting blinded. There.
How bad is it when this is the only good thing i can name right now.

Hey everyone, I’m having a bit of trouble with the handoff feature on my MacBook Pro M4 Pro. It seems like when I try to remotely scan my documents on my iPhone and send them to my Mac’s Finder, it’s not working as expected. I’m using the latest macOS Tahoe 26.0.1 public release, and it wasn’t an issue in Sequoia and the previous Tahoe release either. Once I finish scanning a document on my iPhone, it freezes or times out, and my Mac shows an error about the device connection being lost.

I was in the middle of scanning my homework on a notebook with 8-10 pages when this happened. My iPhone 15 Pro is running iOS 26.0.1.

Should I just close Finder and reopen it?

My iPhone and MacBook Pro are connected to the same WiFi, and I scanned my documents on a table next to my desk, so they should be within range.

I found a bug in macOS Tahoe 26.0 (25A354):
every time I clear history in Safari then a crash report is generated.
Console --> Crash Report --> Safari
This update didn't fix this bug...

Can anyone confirm or deny if they fixed the green traffic button lighting up by itself when the cursor goes near it on the right side?

This was a minor update, specifically to allow Mac Studio M3 Ultra owners to install Tahoe.

Lou

I know :)
I just hadn't bothered until .1 released, so, these are my impressions on the latest and greatest.
And i'm sure it will be much improved as time goes by.

But, when you push your users to update (badges, notifications, extra popups + a sign on the Apple menu before they log out/shut down, just in case they forgot) right now, don't delay upgrading folks..
Is it unfair of me to criticise what i'm being served? :)
(and i do believe it will be improved)

I upgraded my 2020 M1 MacBook Air to macOS 18.7 via a hotspot running on an iPhone 13 with ios 18.6 — everything worked fine. Backed up & installed mac OS 26.0.1 via the same hotspot.

Tahoe running okay on MacBook but now it can’t reach the internet even though it says it is connected to my hotspot.

Anyone with a solution or a similar problem?
