I am wondering if there is any speculation on future updates regarding GPUs for the macpro. Apple is lagging behind with the GPU again and I am wondering if they are prepping to launch the R600 graphics card on the Macpro during the next update.
Does anyone know about or heard rumors about future updates regarding the GPUs for the macpro?

They aren't a computer company any more as evident by their name change and lack of any computer news. They're too busy with MP3 players and phones.

Seriously though, I wouldn't hold my breath. They shipped the G5 PowerMac with a NVidia *6600LE* (low end previous generation card) until August 2006!

While it is of course a possibility, I wouldn't count on it. The market for such cards isn't the same one Apple target with the Mac Pro. If there are legitimate reasons for such a small GPU range available, then I wouldn't expect an upgrade until later this year when second or third (I don't know the timeline) cards are out.

Apple ususally doesn't equip the Macs with top notch grfx cards, and for some it is quite frustrating.
nVidia hasn't made a retail card for a long time for the Mac (the 6800 Ultra was the last IIRC... and that one only came out to be able to drive the then new 30" display on existing G5's).

ATi do ususally however have one or two retail cards for the Mac.

Let's hope ATi will make retail versions of their latest and greatest grfx cards for us too....

ATI seems to be aiming for the ever-increasing mac market by introuducing mac-speciif cards like the x1900 g5 edition. I wouldn't be surprised if the R600 made it into an 8-core mac pro
