since i have installed iTunes 4 and QT 6.2, my computer has "been on the fritz" it is only recognizing a few peripherals and cds occasionally. the system is locking up at random times, and when i try to log out, at least 75% of the time it locks up in the process of doing so. i am running a
400Mhz G3 slot loadin iMac with 10.2.5, and it won't recognize my new iPod! I just got it friday, and was able to sync it friday, so I got some music on there.

    PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Yeah repair permissions. Apple's installers really bite the big one when it comes to stuff like this-- completely ignores your system in favor of an 'ideal' system somewhere. Anyway, if that doesn't work, pray like hell.

    Repair premissions, BUT
If that doesn't work you got a CD w/ your mac and if can do a better job of repairing then on Mac software can, boot up on it and hopefully you will be good.

I think he means to boot from the CD and repair permissions from there.

If you don't know about permissions you can get more informaition here.

If they doesn't work then pop in the 10.2 disc and restart while holding the C-key down. This will cause the computer to start up off of the CD. Once there do a install choosing the archive and install option. The archive and install option will disable and archive your old OSX system folder and install a new one copying all of your old preferences and option to the new system in the process. This in no way will effect any thing else on your drive just the system. After you are done with the install go to software update and run the updater. You will then have to restart. Once you it has restarted run the updater again.

I have exactly the same problem - nearly exactly the same setup, however i only have problems with Audio CD's.

I've tried repairing permissions - which it found some and corrected them, but to no avail.

Sorry getting deja vu from repeating myself in a couple ofd threads here and on apple's iMac/iTunes/QT forums.

I think will probably have to try reinstalling 10.2 as per Macbandit.

I'm @ work at the moment so i'll try it when i get home and post the results later.

    Fingers crossed!!!!

You can also try to run fsck -y. Start up your Mac holding the Apple key and the S key. After a bunch of lines of text have scrolled on your monitor, write fsck -y and hit enter. Write exit and hit enter when it's done.

I have seen weirder problems get solved with this simple trick.
