Make TouchBar Remember Media Controls?

Confusing title I know.

Basically I have spotify running in the background and can tap the media control on the TB when spotify is playing in the background to have a scrubber and media buttons.

If I enter spotify I get the in app controls for that but if I go back to my application I was in (say Chrome) the TB resets and I have to click the media button again to bring up the Spotify controls.

Is there a setting/app to make the TB remember to keep the media controls for Spotify open?
