There are many browser extensions for Safari/Chrome/Firefox that enable video downloading from various websites.
I also was used to think OS X is a safe heaven, with almost no virus/malware.

The problem is many of them does contain malwares, even on OS X, and yesterday I have had the proof.
Installed Safari extension into my MPB with Mountain Lion and the HDD started to work a lot and almost block the laptop.
Uninstalled immediately and all returned normal.

So there are safe video downloader out here? Where can I find one?

ClipGrab, though it might not work on the sites you want it to.
VideoDownloadHelper for Firefox is another one.

Currently there are zero viruses affecting Mac OS X in public circulation, but there are other kinds of malware existing, that can infect your Mac, but that can be avoided via employing the proper security steps without the help of any anti virus software.

Appear to me simply incredible I can't find a way to do this thing.

I also just test RealPlayer 12 for Mac, I does download videos, but when you try to play them they don't play at all using any player.

This is just the 5° or 6° different tool I try, I want now to try ClipGrab but...its a shame I'm loosing hours to find a way to do such a basic thing.

I'm aware about no viruses, that's why I'm a Mac fan.
But I wasn't aware about malware....and anyway I need to have this feature working in a way or other.

    Mostly YT.
Was one of the extensions I installed at first, and then deleted.
Don't know if was the source of problems, but don't want to try it again.
Do you know any other "safe" solution?

Reading comments about the different download helpers appear that any solution that gain traction will sooner or later converted in spyware or malware to sustain his free status.

RealPlayer is a huge disappointment, considering the well know name I was hoping for a safe solution (Real can't burst his brand with malware) but it simply doesn't work.

If it is mostly YT, then ClipGrab, I use it all the time, it is malware free, ad free and free in itself and easy to use.

I normally get full download speeds, if the YT servers give me that (YT has been wonky the past few days, really annoyingly wonky).

I recommend youtube-dl. Available in MacPorts and Open Source.
