Even if there was nothing wrong with the machine it would be hard to live up to the success of the Apple II series.

I would put some of the Performa series Macs as the worst ever, because they were deliberately crippled rather than just shoddily built like the Apple III.

I had a "Wall Street" Powerbook that was pretty bad. It looked good on the outside, but it was designed all weird. You could tell by picking it up; it had no balance to it, ton of flex in the cheap plastic case. Last model to have a removable media drive, the drive bay connection was sloppy and the drive liked to pop out at odd times, like while biking to work. Trackpad also liked to pop out of the mooring and there was nothing beneath it, so you'd frequently have a trackpad sitting a half inch below the top panel. Much heavier on the left side than the right so when using it on your lap it slid that way. Display lasted about a year before going all dim and yellow, worthless for graphics work. Not that you were doing much with that fanless G3 233 burning into your leg. And let's not get into that crappy yo-yo power supply that looked cool and stupid at the same time, and needed to be replaced every eight months or so.

Srsly, what is it with Apple and ****** power supplies? Look great, but no reinforcement whatsoever.

I would like to add the Power Macintosh 4400 as my favourite as the worst Apple ever.
Certainly the worst Mac ever, IMHO.

Such an ugly beast, with ever part designed to keep this Mac as cheap as possible. Totally wrong.

Well, maybe not worst from a quality standpoint, but certainly from a "What was Marketing thinking" one, I nominate the 20th Anniversary Mac and the G4 Cube. I specifically exclude the Lisa, as that was just too much, too soon (kinda like the Newton).
