    I just bought a 2.0Ghz 15" MBP.

I did so because of the 67% brighter screen... I think I recall a tripedation over the fact that it would be totally outdated in less than a year. But As there are stilll 8 more months till December 31st, I'd rather buy a UP-Dated computer and learn about Unix, Linux, Windows, and all modern OS X apps. Which as of now are far too fantastical to even dream of putting on my pathetic G4 350 Mhz tower.

I suppose I'm lucky or unlucky getting the in the misdt of the big transition cycles every time... (350 Mhz G4 Tower is lowest end earliest release). But for me it's STILL a MASSIVE jump in technology. I suppose I could wait till the END OF HISTORY... or the BEGINNING of the AGE OF AQUARIUS, where computers may be made of light and controled by your mind - fold out of thin air before closed eyes in empty space... But then again... a nice portable computer that is more Brilliant, verstile, powerful, and modernized than anything i've ever touched with my fingers...

I ordered with the student discount... the cheaper RAM configuration, everything. TIME I think is what we must save, not money. Time is not as plentiful as money anymore. I really believe this being a poor student with no money whatsoever. I can always sell my MBP and save up a 1000$ or so again.

    A:
    2.0Ghz MBP
    100GB 5400RPM 15" Apple Cinema display
    10.4 Tiger with Bootcamp

    Compared to A:
    350Mhz G4 Tower
    2 - 9.0 GB Hard disks
    384 MB RAM
19 inch HP Pavilon CRT display

Is enough of a Quantum Leap for me...

Some of you make it sound as if buying a MBP before 64-Bit Memron is making a huge mistake that only a complete dumbass would. Jesus Christ... With all that talk about this MBP being a "StopGap" computer... It can't be a stopgap if it is the beggining of a completly new kind of technology. Thats like saying that switching to Hybrid is buying a stopgap between here and completly pollutionless engine based Automobiles.

I've never seen a bunch of competitive Apple Computer™ fetished zombies in my life(!)... I mean keep your yard nice and green and all but do it for yourself.... not to make someone else out there feel beaten on by your competitive ego.

...Sorry but I just think that's a reasonable reaction to the past couple of weeks of posts 'round here about the MBP rumors Apple rumors and those who bought a MBP and those who are waiting (and probably for more and the old "techdating" reason) You don't have to be a Gandalf to buy a decent computer yet do you?

And thats not denying that indeed may get that way now with apple using Intell chips... Personnly I think that if the Memron MBPs don't have a upgrade capacity to allow socketed CPU upgrades... then THAT is a mistake. As Apple must realize that people not only don't want to Buy complelty new Desktop computer setup every 9 months or so... But we also don't want to have to buy a complelty new Laptop system every 9 months...

So my point is that the best technology isn't in the newest processor anymore, those outdate faster than anything historically , but the upgradeability and flexibility is what is to become THE cutting edge Once the computing industry starts to hit the 'short and curly'. As i'm seeing hardware just as ephemral as SOFTWARE is.

Luckily it was her decision. She didn't want to learn the way of the Mac. I'm happy with that for now.

Good man, I knew that you would have been so kind as to let her choose between the computers. :) In time, she will want a Mac. :)

I agree, the current MBP's are awesome machines that I would not hesitate to buy. That said, Merom/Conroe look like some pretty awesome chips..... :)

I think that you will need to ask much nicer than that. For example, "May I pretty, pretty please have one of your MacBook Pros? :) :) :) :) :) :)" ;) :D

indeed they do, but personally its not worth the wait from the current MacBook Pros imo. They might have a slighter faster graphics card and CPU, (knowing apple, they probably won't go with extremely high end portables, their prices will be ridiculious compared to similar specced Dells or HPs) but the current gen is great.

However, when my current PC isnt good for playing games anymore, probably 3 years, thats when ill go for a PowerMac (Mac Pro, Conroe 2 :p) for dual booting.

I know how you feel upgrading from a 300MHz beige G3 to a Rev "B" dual 2.0 G5 Tower. Amazing difference!

The G3 cost just over $2700 new and it's still working perfectly.
The G5 dual 2.0 ended up costing me $1599 new on clearance.

I was the perfect machine for audio recording and it will serve me well
    for years to come.
