I've been noticing some odd behavior with my MBP's internal drive; when I'm sitting here working on the computer (not doing anything particularly intensive), it will periodically (maybe once every five minutes) sound like it's falling asleep then waking up immediately--I hear that soft little "ker-plunk" of the head parking then unparking.

SMART says it's ok, I have Energy Saver set to NOT sleep the hard drives when possible, and even the newly released TTD for Intel says everything is peachy.

It's not really causing any problems, but it's mildly unnerving, and since the computer is brand new it's still well within the time period I'd call reasonable for an infant drive failure.

Wondering if there's some software explanation for this that's that I'm not thinking of, or if it's just one of those "keep an eye on it" things.

The Hard drive will make SOME noise while its in use. But it shouldnt sound
Be on the lookout for any OTHER odd noises from the drive. If your hearing any scraping or loud taps then you may want to take it to a specialist / repair place.

So the "ker-plunk" noise could be a problem? I have noticed it on my MBP since I first got it in March. It does happen at really odd times like just during normal websurfing or activating the Dashboard but it is totally random. Sometimes I haven't heard it for a few days and then it will happen twice in an hour.

I had never had a 7200rpm drive before and just thought it was normal.
