So recently I had repairs done to my MBP. They changed out my logicboard. The tech did something really weird and put in a logic board with the upgraded processor and upgarded video card. I was pretty excited about it. Today I was checking my serial number on my computer and realized the one printed on my computer is different than the one showing up in my system profiler. I also noticed that the serial number that shows up in my system profiler has apple care protection on it. I never purchased applecare, and so naturally, the serial number printed on the computer does not have applecare on it. I'm concerned about this discrepency in serial numbers because I'm unsure as to what will occur next time I take it into to get it worked on. Anyone have any recommendations? Oh, one other piece of information. The reason this sounds like a very untraditional repair is because the tech who worked on my computer was an apple certified technichian on the campus of the school I go to.

Normally once you have the logic board changed.. the serial is suppose to show up blank in your system profiler.

The fact that it shows up as one with Applecare .. you might want to call apple about that. I know apple techs usually scan the one on your system (near the battery) so i'm not sure if that would apple (the applecare)

Like I said, I didn't send it in. A tech here on campus did it. I don't know how it's possible, but he did it. He replaced the entire logic board, so I assume he just replaced it with one that has the better processor and video card.

Something smells fishy here. Its just a good job you didnt put up your school name as it sounds like you and the tech should be reported to apple and the authorities.

Wow! That's quite the accusation. Are you implying that I'm in a conspiracy with the tech in doing something illegal? That's pretty defamatory.
