MBP power adaptor cable

I've had my MBP for a few months and the plastic coating of the power adaptor cable has already melted/worn-through just below the magsafe plug. There is exposed wiring and the surrounded plastic feels warm.

Is this covered under warranty? I had to replace my Powerbook adaptor three times due to similar problems (is the cable made of butter?) and thought the magsafe design was meant to resolve this? I've never had such problems with other laptops.

I know this has been covered by other complainers, but this problem is, really, my only complaint about my MBP- the magsafe seems to be coming apart before my very eyes. Grr.

Just brought it in to an Apple authorized service centre. I was told that the disintegrated plastic on the cable is due to physical damage and not covered. I haven't done anything but periodically plug and unplug the connector in the couple months that I've had the MBP!

While I was there, I pointed out that the latch button on the computer must be pressed in as far as possible with a fingernail before releasing. It's been like that since I received the computer. I was told that the entire bottom casing must be replaced and this isn't covered either.

I'm so irritated, I think I may switch back to the PC world.

I agree, sounds like one bad apple. I have two power cords, and plug both in multiple times daily, and have the power cord leaving the computer at sometimes 'wrenching' angles, and have done so since March. Mine both still look perfectly fine. (One of the two locations I plug it in, the MagSafe is barely strong enough to hold it in place, the power cable is going back at such a harsh angle. This is such an angle that I went through TWO of the old-style PowerBook adapters in two years.)
