Look at this. The player is sold in Germany through the Aldi supermarket chain. Soon available in other countries. It even simulates the clickwheel.

Just like to see opinions. But it looks a little too much, if you ask me.

Well if they were trying to imitate the iPod, which I'm pretty sure they are, they took the iPod mini and a 1955 TV and made it into a defective fetus. I can't imagine the features are any good, and it looks TERRIBLE.

there's always going to be people that take the cheap route and buy these sorts of things. It's only when they get burned and realise that 'you get what you pay for' that they realise that cheapest isnt always best.

Then again..this this is gonna be sold in Aldi. That speaks a lot for the target audience..

That first picture looks a lot like the iPod... The second one not so much, in my opinion. What's with the buttons though? Is there also a wheel type thing there? Do you push the buttons, or are they touch-sensitive? Strange.

here the article about the medion player on heise (in german)
it even uses DSPs from the same manufacturer like the ipod

ironically it has mroe features than the ipod for less money but i guess the build quality will be absolute garbage ;)

"Stiftung Warentest" (German Consumer Reports) reviewed the Medion one. Take a look at the review (in German).

    Conclusion:
    Weak iPod Copy
    - files may disappear
    - mic is bad
    - wheel doesn't work
    - buttons are hard to use

As long as people continue to copy Apple, things are cool.

the iPod is a pile of sh*t.
apple sell it at a rip-off price.
the sony walkman is more value for money

    - No Line In jack for recording
    - No USB capability (except for the new version, but that requires you to buy and adaptor
    - Cannot drag and drop files like you can on the Archos Jukebox 20Gb (requires Matchbox to modify files on player)
    - a bit pricey compared to other mp3 players
    - only can create playlists through Matchbox
    - since it is firewire and most people dont have firewire cards you much purchase one, but not only that if you ever want to use it as a portable swap drive to share files, the other computer would need the card too.

I got get a Creative Zen 60GB for 300 quid. at that price i would only get a 40GB iPod.

    stupid apple.

Well, I won't comment on this one, there have been about a billion discussions like this and many people know why they love their iPods.

To get back on topic: I've actually had one of those Medion "iPods" in my very own hands today... what shall I say, it's a big piece of junk. Those buttons are reaaaally hard to press, not to mention that you actually have to search them on this weird black whatever. I'd rather pay a hundred bucks more for something I can actually use.

But I remeber something like Apple patending the wheel for the use in media devices such as MP3-Players... that's the reason why no other player can be used as elegantly as the iPod. Why can Medion have a wheel without being sued by Apple?

I dislike copies in general, so of course this is crap. Looks like they used el cheapo materials (although I must admit I like the black scheme).

A creative Zen!, well good for you!

    *pats atif on the head*

I would think it's a bit of a stretch to call the iPod a pile of sh*t. Especially on this board.

I don't get it, are you talking about the Sony Walkman up there, or the iPod?

Hasn't iPod had USB for awhile now??

    wtf is Matchbox??

And why do you say in the 3rd bullet point that you can't drag and drop files, but on the last bullet point you can?

    Are you drunk?

    /doesn't have an ipod

What's really funny about this, is that you are quite near to the real translation. The first three letters are also found there...

Because the iPod isn't made for recording, it's an mp3 player.

That's because FireWire is way better. Why use an inferior port, when every modern Mac has the better port integrated? It's not Apple's fault that PCs use inferior technology... ;)

Why don't you use iTunes? You cannot talk about inconvenience while not taking the obviously most convenient way. And you can drag and drop songs there.

You get what you pay for...

Well, you can also use iTunes. And you have on-the-go-playlists. So, what do you want?

See above answer. It's not Apple's fault that you use inferior technology. You can buy a Mac after all... ;)

See above answer. You get what you pay for.

Yeah, they're so stupid for producing an mp3 player that has the biggest market share and letting their shares go through the roof.
