There are so many apps to hide or change the way the menu looks up on top of mac os x. But now are there any applications that can make it transparent? Lately it's been becoming transparent  (w/ the menus still readable) after I force quit an application... thinking it's a glitch or something, but it doesn't look bad. Is there something out there to make it permanent?

I've had that happen with some applications that use full screen or somehow take control of the menu bar...usually logging out or just using the computer for a while will fix it.

They want to keep it transparent, not fix it.
And sorry, I don't know of any hacks that will do this.

EDIT: ShapeShifter stated that in an update they:
Fixed visual glitches in the background of Menu Extras for themes that use a horizontally non-uniform or partially transparent menubar

So this must mean that you can get transparent menubars on themes, but not sure how to do it on it's own
