According to a CNET article, (link)

InterTrust has sued Microsoft over possible infringment of its dgital rights patents. Microsoft recently lost a key ruling in the lawsuit. Microsoft said that it will defend against what it believes are groundless claims.

Digital rights management, or anti-piracy, technology is used to restrict or prevent unauthorized copying of media such as video and, the very popular, audio.

In a recent Fortune article things are looking really bad for M$....

Microsoft suffered utter defeat at a crucial pretrial hearing in what appears to be the highest-stakes patent litigation ever—one in which a tiny company called InterTrust Technologies claims that 85% of Microsoft's entire product line infringes its digital security patents.

wow, utter defeat, that's nice to hear......;)

Ok! Let's take two proverbs and slam them together (in spirit)

“Whom the gods want to destroy, they send forty years of success.”
    - Peter Drucker

"A candle that burns twice as bright burns only half as long."
    - Old Proverb

Ok, take both of those, and you can see that MS is toast in very short order. In fact, I think we're seeing the start of an IBM-esqe decline from a peak at 2000.

The ship has simply developed too many leaks for the engineers to patch (was that a really bad pun?).
