    Hi,

I have been following ANY information regarding the iPhone intently since it was announced. I haven't been an Apple fan in the past (OS 9 was the bane of my college project experience), but I fell in love with iPhone.

I am wondering how the releases for Apple products are executed. Is there a set release date for products? If there is, maybe a midnight release?

Or do the Apple stores just sell the product when they receive them (i.e. California could sell/release iPhone before Chicago)?

I would love any insight to how Apple goes about conducting their releases.

The iPhone will be available the same day nation-wide. A midnight release is definitely possible.

Do you think they take might do any pre-orders? I'm only familiar gaming console releases.

Well, you'll definitely be familiar with the sold-out status for weeks, then. ;)

That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I stood outside to pre-order my Wii, so at midnight on launch day, I just walked right up to the counter. I was hoping to do the same with iPhone.

I NEED to have it in my hand the minute it comes out :)

They had a preorder list at my local Cingular store - it was handwritten though so I don't think it was very official - probably just used to gather data and gauge interest. There were about 75 names on it.

I have a friend who used to work at Best Buy, and they got the shipment of 5G iPod videos 2 days before the official release, and they were not allowed to open them until a certain time (to go along with the release in the apple stores and online)...

I bet it's gonna be preorders for a looong time. You sign up for the plan and wait for the phone to ship.

I'm REALLY hoping that they announce it a few days in advance, and do a midnight release. I will totally wait outside Cingular too.

Ohhh the agony, June cannot come soon enough. While I think getting an iPhone on day 1 will require a long day and a good bit of patience, I do not think it will be as bad as some of the gaming releases as of recent just because of the sheer number of people who are into gaming as compared to a product such as the iPhone. Don't get me wrong, the iPhone is hot and will fly off the counter, but just a different situation than the gamers have experienced I think.

I wonder if it would be better to order online or go to the store?

it's not outside possibility that apple will do a midnight launch. wasn't mac os x 10.2 released at 10:20pm? either way, i think it'll be hard to find for a while like the minis were when they first launched. but i really believe anyone who wants one will have one within a month. if only the wii were as easy to find.

    Ugh

Ugh...I really don't want to have to camp out for the iPhone. Although I'm happy for Apple that there is so much interest...why does EVERYONE have to jump on the bandwagon??

...I know, Apple is irrestible and people are just starting to find out.

I personally will be at the store. Its all part of the experience actually waiting for the product, going up to the counter and dropping all your money, and then walking out of the store with a huge grin and a new toy.

I just really wish they would announce a definitive release date so I don't have to camp out June 10th only to find that it's not the right date.

    Ugh, I hate waiting.

I just want the iPhone ASAP because I'm sick & tired of this Treo - my fourth 650 since the day they were released. It flat will not sync with anything anymore (and the last few months it did, it would randomly either duplicate or delete entries. Merging was apparently not an option...). It is a fairly useless phone and contact manager any longer. I'm tired of keyboards crapping out. I'm tired of Palm apps that are cute by themselves, but don't connect me to my work in any meaningful way.

I just want to keep my (roughly) 500 active contacts in one piece. Not to mention the additional 500 or so "background" contacts I need. I need a calendar that doesn't embarass me in front of the customer. I need a phone browser that doesn't tease me anymore, but just does what a browser is supposed to do.

And no, a Crackberry will categorically NOT do what I need, the way I need it (or else I would've gotten one by now. Believe me, I've looked!)

I can change the battery, though. I suppose I have to find something nice to say about it.

It WILL gauge all kinds of interest, but I am not sure how many people will actually bite. The $500 and $600 price tags are rough, + the fact you are locked into Cingular and most people already have a carrier. (Other than Cingular)

I'm not sure if it would be better to do it online or at the Apple Store/Cingular Store (both are near me) so we'll just have to wait until June to find out.

I will definitely need to get the iPhone the first day it is out. If it is released at midnight, I guess I will have to stand out under the summer stars.

I would hope that Apple and AT&T will take pre-orders, it only make sense. I am sure more information will be released when June gets a little bit closer.

I would bank on a midnight launch, simply because Apple's flagship store (5th Ave. NYC) is open 24 hours. I would put money on the fact that there will be a huge launch at that store, maybe even closing the store for a short time to set up displays, demos, etc.
