I frequently have to write in German, and I used to switch Keyboard layouts via a command so that I would have the ä ö ü ß keys.

However, I find this quite annoying at times, so I sometimes use the accent menu (press the a button for 2 sec and I get ä)

However, Apple did this in the most stupid way possible. In order to get a ß I have to press "s" then 1, and to get a ö I have to press "o" then "2" and to get an ä I have to press "a" and "4".

ä 4
ö 2
ü 2
ß 1

Is there a way to change all of these to the numeral 1? Or even better, if I hold it for a long time, and the menu pops up, I would love to just hit the space bar or the enter key so that it would accept it as "yes, change a into ä"

Thanks

There must be a way to change this. I kind of wish back windows where you could tweak everything really easy via the registry. :(
